Isolation - _A Prayer for the World to End_
by: Quentin Kalis (4.5 out of 5)
Isolation's demo consists of a mere two tracks, yet nearly reaches a total of twenty minutes. Such a surplus of time hints at doom, and one would not be completely wrong, although a melancholic strain of black metal arguably has a stronger presence. The music is largely mid-paced, picking up the tempo on occasion, most notably for the crushing climax on the closer. The vocals consist of the usual screams, but are also accompanied by extremely high-pitched shrieks which take a while to get used to, and the demo would probably have benefited from a more judicious use of these banshee screams. There is definitely room for improvement here, but I can nonetheless say that this is one of the best demos I had the pleasure of hearing. Doom and black metal fans are advised to keep an eye on this act -- we surely haven't heard the last from them, and I sincerely hope that their next release will be in the albums section.
