Folkodia - _In a Time of Legends_
(Stygian Crypt Productions, 2009)

I am completely clueless as to the supposed raison d'ĂȘtre of Folkodia's existence, being an offshoot of Folkearth with shared members (including several core personalities such as Marios Koutsoukos, Hildr Valkyrie and Metfolvik) and the exact same concept. No surprise then that they sound pretty much the same, begging the question why they didn't simply record another Folkearth album. It can't be that they didn't want to flood the market with Folkearth material -- when Folkodia's debut was released last year, the same year no fewer than three Folkearth albums were released. This is superior to the last Folkearth album, but this is the first output by either of the two for 2009. (A new Folkearth album was released in October.) It is also better produced, there are catchy melodies, but what the world really needs is for Folkearth is to simply produce one album that can compare to _By the Sword of My Father_, not a litany of inferior work or side projects.
