Vietah - _Zorny Maroz_

Remember the classic Burzum albums released before the self-indulgent keyboard meanderings? No need to -- _Filosofem_ and _Hvis Lyset Tar Oss_ probably have pride of place in your collection, and if they don't, then it's probably safe to assume you either don't like black metal or discovered it over the past weekend. In which case this may sound fresh and invigorating, but if you have heard any of Burzum's pre-_Filosofem_ output, you will recognise this for the cheap rip-off it is. Many artists are strongly influenced by Burzum, including Drudkh and Woodtemple, but none, not even Wigrid, slavishly ape the Count. The same sparse drumming, minimalist ambient tones, throat-searing vocals and droning riffs feature, and trying to find significant similarities between the two bands is the proverbial needle in a haystack. If you want to hear the best Burzum album not to feature Varg Vikernes look no further, otherwise stick to _Det Som Engang Var_.
