Artas - _The Healing_
(Napalm Records, 2008)
by: Jackie Smit (2.5 out of 10)
Imagine this: a melodic death metal band hulking up to take on Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise", replete with scream-rapping to handle the verses and a contrived sing-a-long chorus. Sound appealing? Thought not. Now imagine said cover delivered by a vocalist who couldn't hide his distinctly Germanic accent for love or money, and you'll start to approach the level of aural absurdity that Artas comfortably operate at. The rest of the record rarely comes close to compensating for this horrible misstep either; _The Healing_ is essentially thirteen tracks worth of conveyor-belt modern metal that's content to cling to its gallop/chug formula for dear life. Respite comes in the shape of a surprisingly atmospheric "Through the Dark Gates", but other than that, this is little more than a complete waste of a perfectly good CD. Avoid like a case of leprosy.
