Ixxion - _Ixxion_
(Independent, 2007)

Ixxion are one of the newer adherents bowing down before the god of true heavy metal. This offering is defiled by some grunts appropriate for extreme explorations, but in an album tentatively paying tribute to true metal, it is an unnecessary embellishment. The influence of prophets and proselytisers such as Iron Maiden and Saxon can be clearly heard. The poor production counts against them, as a more powerful guitar sound is a necessity for the drums to be slightly less prominent and possessed of a less hollow sound. The presence of two guitarists comes as no surprise, as interplay between twin guitarists is an absolute prerequisite to give the music some strength. Strangely it sounds rather sparse, which can in part be blamed on the production, as a stronger production would add much needed oomph as well as allow the nuances to shine forth. At the moment, it is at best a blueprint for a temple to the gods of metal and not its final product.
