Wykked Wytch can be seen as Cradle of Filth with a penis-less vocalist. (I can hear the black metal kiddies retorting that that is no different from Cradle, although Dani does admittedly reach higher notes...) Female screechers are still a novelty, unlike their angelic voiced sisters, and tend to gain insufficient attention if a band is lacking in some department. Wykked Wytch do not need to rely on Ipec's voice to attract attention; it may even work against them, as she sounds as if she is trying too hard on a number of occasions.

As not so subtly implied by the CoF reference, this very European sounding American quartet (now quintet) perform symphonic blackened death metal not too far removed from Dimmu Borgir or Vesania. Lyrically, they are nothing special, thankfully staying away from pseudo-archaic English and clumsy three word titles. The symphonic flourishes are surprisingly muted, relegated to a minor supporting role, Wykked Wytch relying on solid leadwork and drumming to fill the vacuum. Whatever the reason, Wykked Wytch have bravely attempted a cover of the Eurhythmics' "Sweet Dreams" (now where have I heard that before) rendering it totally unrecognisable. Wykked Wytch will not unseat the current genre leaders, but they have produced a solid album certain to have a wide appeal.
