Despite possessing a name that sounds suspiciously similar to that of a certain Hollywood black metal frontman, Belgian based Shargath eschew blackened bombast in favour of death metal located within a very modern sounding and urban context, with more than a dab of hardcore. Occasionally, their venture into contemporary territory is taken a step too far, such as an ill-advised rap on "Skull of the Festish (sic) Slave" but they generally maintain a balance between the intensity of death metal and the relevancy offered by metalcore.

This album is more complex than the knucklehead shouts and 'core breakdowns would suggest, and the guitar tone possesses sufficient crunch to drive the music forward. Sometimes they get a tad repetitive, such as on "Sky Spies Are Watching Us From Space".

Clearly this will not appeal to everyone, as their death is dressed in 21st century clothes and the 'core touches will probably alienate others, but Shargath nevertheless provide an above average entrant to modern metal.
