De Lirium's Order - _Diagnosis_
(Shadow World Records, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (6.5 out of 10)
Released by artist-owned label Shadow World Records, De Liriums's Order have reportedly cracked the Top 30 in their Finnish homeland. And understandably so; they produce a melodically aggressive version of death metal that is likely to have a wide support base in a metal heaven such as tundra covered Suomi. The trouble is, as a band they're nothing particularly special. They are competent in all major respects, from the musicianship through to song-writing and performance, but are let down by a lack of originality. If asked what separates De Lirium's Order from the others, the best I can do is point to their cover of Carcass's "Incarnated Solvent Abuse", as one of the better covers I have heard as they manage to imbibe their version with the flavour of the band, without losing the spirit of the original. A decent work that will not be remiss in your CD collection -- even if it sounds like a lot of the others.
