Cloama - _Cloama_
(New Old Sentinel / Neuroscan, 2005)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Consisting of five tracks of varying lengths and atmospheres and arriving in an oversize two panel sleeve, this excursion into the depths of dark ambient is unlike Claoma's later and noisier collaboration with Blutleuchte.

My exposure to Finnish ambient is largely limited to the Helixes collective centred around the Aural Hypnox label, but Cloama is clearly capable of competing with his kin. But even with the amount of ambience and other experimental electronics I have been exposed to over the past eighteen months, an album of this nature is somewhat outside of my comfort zone. The best description would be experimental dark ambient, as it lacks the oppressive atmosphere of a Raison d'Être and other CMI acts and is far too busy to be placed within the minimalist or ritual strains. And it is 'dark', as despite the variance in moods, Cloama never ventures far from negative energies.

It's an interesting album, one which I am sadly not really capable of expounding in great detail at this point, but does present an entertaining and edifying listen. My recommendation is too give both this and _From Wasteland Mausoleums_ a listen.
