At the Lake - _At the Lake_
(Independent, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
This is primarily the project of one Milena, who is also the resident violinist of this heavy metal band. Vocals are again provided by a woman with an ample set of lungs and an obvious trained voice. As expected from the marriage of heavy metal and violin, there is a strong upbeat folk air. This is especially noticeable on the jaunty instrumental "Arrow of Oblivion", which is little more than an excuse (albeit a welcome one) for Milena to show off her violin playing skills (at least more so than on the rest of the album). The violin and vocals dominate to the extent that the other instruments are little more than backing, and barring a few passages the guitar performance is rather pedestrian, while the compositions are less than convincing. Still, those with a taste for heavy or so-called gothic metal might find something of interest.
