Reality Grey - _Darkest Days Are Yet to Come_
(Independent, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Whether you like it or not, Gothenburg metal is here to stay, at least for a while, and Italians Reality Grey are the latest addition to a long litany of bands exploring this subgenre. As with so many to come before them, the story remains the same: the musicians are competent, they have more than a few decent melodies, and the CD cannot be considered terrible by any stretch of the imagination. Yet it lacks that vital something that would elevate them above the numerous and nameless bands exhausting the genre. The vocals are worth mentioning due to the relatively unique screeching style instead of the usual modified death grunts and black metal scream -- but this in itself is insufficient to raise them above many, many others pursuing this line of music. Diehard melodeath fans will find plenty to enjoy here, but those who do not possess the same fervour for this style will abandon it after a few listens.
