Debauchery - _Torture Pit_
(Black Attakk, 2005)
by: Pedro Azevedo (4 out of 10)
With a name like Debauchery and a front cover consisting of the kind of gore drawings we used to see in some records over a decade ago, there is no mistaking _Torture Pit_ for anything other than what it is: yet another throwback to '90s brutal death metal. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that, as some quality releases may attest, but really, in this day and age the bar has to be set pretty high for this type of material than what the likes of Debauchery and Six Feet Under are producing. Debauchery do little more than rehash some very basic American death metal; they do it competently enough, but lack the panache to overcome their missing originality and escape from redundancy. Excessively lengthy for its own good, this is one of those cases where there is little that can justify buying this record instead of just listening to a better album from the '90s. At least they have enough humour (I assume) to include an acoustic version of one of their songs in the end, complete with death vox.
