It's ironic that just a few short weeks ago myself and Nile's Karl Sanders were bemoaning the current state of music DVDs on these very pages, because Nuclear Blast have stepped up to the plate and delivered the goods in a big way with _Used & Abused_. Featuring a compendium of material that boasts clips from no less than three different performances recorded over the course of the last two years, several promotional videos and a bevy of interview and backstage footage that goes well beyond the usual drunken malarkey, this package on paper is any In Flames fan's wet dream. The good news is that the quality of the content matches the quantity. The sound and visuals of the performances are crisp and clear, and the interview sequences run like a professionally shot documentary. As for the performances: it's In Flames doing their thing, nothing more and nothing less. What is abundantly clear after a run-through of this double DVD package though is that In Flames are on the way to becoming the biggest metal band on the planet. That, and record labels no longer have an excuse when it comes to DVDs -- not with a release of this quality serving as the benchmark.
