Unsane - _Blood Run_
(Relapse Records, 2005)
by: Xander Hoose (9 out of 10)
For those not familiar with Unsane: where the hell have you been the last ten years?! Unsane has provided a steady sickening sound in the deepest underground of grind, noisecore and hardcore. Where Unsane went, bands like Eyehategod and Today Is the Day followed. Never having received the proper credit for being a groundbreaking band, _Blood Run_ might well be Unsane's new shot at getting a bigger audience. From the moment the first song comes pouring out of the speakers to the last riff on "Dead Weight", Unsane give us the thickest of grooves and sludgiest of riffs. Unlike the last two disappointing albums from Today Is the Day, Unsane have actually opted for a cleaner production than I expected. This gives the album a new edge and makes the sound even deeper. The vocals especially seem to profit from the mix, while previously they tended to be drowned in the mix. I won't babble and bitch much longer about _Blood Run_ than is necessary; buy this goddamn album and scare the bejeezus out of your nu-metal neighbor kid. Remember: play at maximum volume for the best effect.
