So, a new album by Sweden's Blodsrit -- or is it Dissection's long lost demo? Either way, there is no denying how enjoyable _Oscularis Infernum_ is: for all its lack of originality, this is still an album you can safely throw into your CD player for a pleasant 40 minutes of melodic black metal. The album sorely lacks the shiny professional quality of Naglfar's superior _Sheol_, but not so much as to become a problem. The production is competent (except for the slightly annoying drum sound) and the playing is quite adequate (bar the somewhat repetitive drumming made worse by the drum sound), which in addition to all the good hooks and melodies ensures a very acceptable release in spite of its originality issues. Unsurprisingly, you get most of the usual shticks (such as corpsepaint, a band member named Nazgul or a Nietzche quotation in the booklet) but this is still unpretentiously enjoyable -- a rather good bet if that's all you're looking for and bands like Dissection and Naglfar happen to be your kind of thing.
